"The Flower Curtain at Jellison Bridge" Installation #1

The first installation was installed today. My colleague and good friend, Heiða Halldórsdóttir and I, installed "The Flower Curtain at Jellison Bridge" on the Fort Hays State University today.

We hung twine from the rafters of the bridge's infrastructure and hand dipped flower petals in casting slip. The Flowers were adhered to the twine with just the slip itself.

The twine hung at different lengths and a small opening was left in the middle for the bridge patrons to pass thru.

Directly underneath the curtain was a thick gold glitter line used to represent a threshold.

The sparkly line was meant to signify that once crossed, the magic would happen.

The curtain remains hanging tonight. Tomorrow we will check if anyone has tracked the glitter to either side of the threshold. How far will the magic travel?

  1. How cool--a magical Call to Adventure à la Joseph Campbell. And on a bridge, the height of elegant symbolism. Congrats and kudos!

He drove us to Cape Canaveral when I was 11 to see the Challenger lift off. We camped in the backyard for my sweet 16 to party with Halleys Comet. My Art school Final critiques took place during an eclipse and my teachers said they wouldn't expect anything less. My sister and I observed our small existence in the Grand Canyon as we star-bathed under the glorious milk way.  My children and I get up in the middle of the night and stand in the driveway to “ooh a
