Spring 2016 Series 2 "Magical Forest Creatures"

I love when you are reading a fairytale that there is always something or somebody a little bit dark that lives in the woods. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad. Yin and Yang.

For my second series I made three busts- head and shoulders. I made a mix of men and women they are all about 16” tall. These three busts represent beings that you could meet in the forest or beings that you would seek out for answers or help. These figures rest on their shoulders and will be displayed on pedestals. I envision them in a round room and you would come across all three and have to choose which one you would seek answers from. These magical guides are adorned with talisman and/ or elements that each personality draws power from. I am exploring facial features and characteristics that will eventually become my “magical being” that will tell my story. I tried to explore three different demeanors. One = playful, one = serious and soul piercing, one = shows concern.

Meet the Magical Creatures you might meet in the Forest...

I was born on an airbase during Pisces Rising, an Aries Sun and a Scorpio Moon. I come from a family of stargazers with an alien abductee mother, who is called “Starseed" by every psychic she meets and a sailor father who consults the stars with the tide as his first mate. He drove us to Cape Canaveral when I was 11 to see the Challenger lift off. We camped in the backyard for my sweet 16 to party with Halleys Comet. My Art school Final critiques took place during an eclipse and my teachers said they wouldn't expect anything less. My sister and I observed our small existence in the Grand Canyon as we star-bathed under the glorious milk way.  My children and I get up in the middle of the night and stand in the driveway to “ooh a
